As a leading provider of educational technology enterprise software applications and services, Blackboard offers solutions addressing the following use cases: course delivery, learning content management, synchronous collaboration, multi-modal communication, mobile app development and learning.
Blackboard is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Blackboard is offering Blackboard Learn™ portfolio to ensure that they can benefit from having the full Blackboard Learn platform:
You will receive the Course Delivery, Community Engagement, Content Management, and Mobile Learn modules for an unprecedented cost-savings.
In addition, with considerable thought and customer success in mind, we have constructed adoption services to ensure you successfully get started with the expanded Blackboard Learning Core solution.
Blackboard not only provides technology solutions but also surrounds the technology with reliable support staff and programs to ensure institutions confidently make the most of their investment.
Simple Content Creation: The content editor reads, writes and renders modern HTML – so those course pages you designed so carefully in Dreamweaver or offline in Word will render with great fidelity within your course. When you want to make the course more interactive for students, you can easily pull in mashups from YouTube, Flickr and Slideshare.
Adaptive Release: Adaptive release of content provides controls to release content to users based on a set of rules created by an instructor. The rules may be related to availability, date and time, individual usernames, membership in course groups, review status of another item in the course, and Grade Center items such as scores, attempts, and calculated columns.
Retention Center: The Retention Center brings retention factors and student engagement to your attention, quickly alerting you to potential risk and allowing you to take immediate action.
Goals & Standards Alignment: Blackboard allows you to align course content to standards and goals, and then report on student performance as well as goal coverage – something critical to reviewing overall program and student performance.
Digital Badges & Achievements: The Achievements tool allows instructors and course designers to designate criteria for issuing rewards to students in the form of both Badges and Certificates. Students can see which rewards they’ve earned and what is required of them to receive additional rewards, providing insight into learning progression toward defined competencies. Students are able to publish badges to the Mozilla Open Backpack, transporting evidence of their learning outside of Blackboard Learn.
Date Management: Changing item dates at the beginning of a new term is a common and time-consuming task. We created this tool to save you a great deal of time, and let you move on to other work more quickly. Now when you copy content of an existing course to a new course shell, all the due dates and release dates are pre-populated for you.
Assessment & Evaluation
ePortfolios: Portfolios are an invaluable tool in academic and professional development. They provide a powerful medium for users to efficiently collect and organize artifacts representative of work completed over time. Portfolios offer a means to demonstrate formative and/or summative progress and achievement. Portfolio authors are empowered with tools to effectively present their information in a cohesive, personalized format.
Plagiarism Prevention: SafeAssign now integrates seamlessly with the native Blackboard Learn Assignment tool, bringing SafeAssign into core instructor and student workflows. SafeAssign is the only plagiarism prevention tool deeply integrated into core Blackboard Learn workflows and comes at no additional cost.
Grading Experience & Grade Management:
Grade Center - The Grade Center in Blackboard Learn is more than just a way to record students' grades. It is a dynamic and interactive tool, allowing you to record data, calculate grades, and monitor student progress. You can generate reports to communicate information to parents, administrators, and other stakeholders. You can determine which assigned grades to show to your students in My Grades, including columns displaying performance results.
Item Analysis & Automated Regrading - Item Analysis helps instructors refine their Assessments by evaluating the quality of each question and that question’s ability to discriminate between students who understand the material and those who do not. This analysis helps weed out (or correct) questions that are poor discriminators. Ineffective or misleading question can easily be identified and corrected via the automatic regrading option.
Anonymous & Delegated Grading - Using grades and feedback from more than one grader helps to promote reliability and remove bias. For large classes, you can divide up the grading tasks among other graders. Roles with default grading privileges include instructor, teaching assistant, and grader.
Inline Grading Experience: The Inline Assignment Grader completes the inline grading experience by introducing a consistent workflow no matter what you’re grading. For Wikis, Blogs, Journals, Discussions, and Assignments, instead of downloading student-submitted files to view or edit submissions, you can see those inline - in the web browser itself. Annotation tools enable you to provide feedback — comments, highlights, and even illustrations — directly on the full screen inline view of the document.
Interactive Rubrics: Interactive Rubrics are a vital tool for efficiently and consistently evaluating and providing feedback to students. Whether you need a rubric to help manage essay responses, open-ended answers, or collaborative submissions to a wiki or blog assignment, Interactive Rubrics create a simple, flexible process integrated directly into your normal grading workflow.
Enterprise Surveys & Course Evaluations: Institutions can conduct surveys at the course, department, institution and general public levels. You can track response rates, aggregate or disaggregate results, and even track results year over year. Plus, automatic reminders and course banners ensure student response.
Standards Alignment & Reporting: You can demonstrate that their programs and curriculum are effective by aligning course content and activities with goals in Blackboard Learn.
Student Activity Reporting: Course Activity Overview displays overall activity within your course, sorted by student and date. Data includes the total and average time spent per user and the total amount of activity a user had in your course. You can also click an individual student's name to access the Student Overview for Single Course report. This report can help you determine which days of the week students are active in your course and see how much time overall students spend.
Interactive Tools (i.e. Discussions, Wikis, Journals, Blogs): In a successful online learning community, students have the right tools for their interactive tasks. Blackboard Learn offers four communication tools for self-reflection, collaboration, and communication. The Discussion Board, Blogs, Journals, and Wikis tools allow you to provide rich assignments and evaluate students in authentic ways where students can share and create knowledge.
Targeted Information Delivery: Deliver targeted information, tools, and branding to different segments of your user community (e.g., freshmen, nursing program, off-campus students, etc.) in the place they already visit daily.
Collaboration: Provide Organizations for formal group collaboration among students, educators, and staff (e.g., advising, orientation programs, extracurricular activities, committees, etc.).
Global Learning Network: Access a global learning network that connects users within and across institutions using Blackboard Learn around the world.
Social Learning: Provide social learning tools for your users to discover, connect, and communicate with their learning network through social, informal means that complement the more formal course experiences.
Content Collection: Simple yet robust file management system for personal, course, and institutional document management, sharing, and re-use.
Blackboard xpLor: Cloud-based, global learning object repository for authoring, copyright, sharing, and discovery of rich educational materials and open educational resources.
eReserves: Make digital versions of copyright-cleared reserve readings available directly in the course.
Blackboard Drive: With Blackboard Drive you no longer need to go to the web interface to manage and edit course and personal files. Instead you can consistently manage content the way you are most comfortable, with familiar desktop tools like Windows® Explorer, Mac OS® X Finder and Microsoft Office, or from the web interface.
Digital Content: With over a decade of experience, Blackboard is committed to seamless content integration and distribution. Blackboard offers the deepest, state-of-the-art integrations of high quality educational content, including Pearson’s MyLab and Mastering, WileyPLUS, McGraw-Hill Connect, Macmillan’s Portals, Classes and Launch Pad, and Cengage Learning’s MindTap and CourseMate. Single sign-on, direct linking to publisher content, AND gradebook synchronization have simplified the user experience so that it is housed under one roof.
Push Notifications: Make it easy for students to stay on top of critical course activity. Students can elect to receive automatic, personalized notifications on their mobile devices that will connect them with course content in Blackboard Mobile Learn as it becomes available.
Mobile Tests: Instructors can use the Mobile Test Creator to easily create mobile-compatible tests. Students have the flexibility to take these tests either through Blackboard Learn, or via a beautiful interface on their Android and iOS devices.
Announcements: Assignment due? Class cancelled? This is the place where instructors go to post the news students need to know now. Students have instant, on-the-go access to the latest announcements, and instructors can post announcements from their mobile devices.
Grades: Students can find out how they did on their latest test or homework assignment by using the Grades tool. They'll even be sent a Push Notification as soon as an item in their course has been graded. No more waiting around wondering if a Grade has been posted.
Tasks: Instructors can help students track and manage the progress of various tasks, from turning in homework assignments to midterm reminders to purchasing textbooks. The tasks tool allows students to mark when they've started a task and when it's complete.
